德翔的董事長是陳德勝的太太。因為沒有上市櫃、加上公司行事風格低調，德翔海運外界知名度不高，但在業內卻是響叮噹，僅次於長榮、陽明、萬海，是台灣第四大貨櫃航商，資本相當雄厚。

陳德勝離開萬海後，本來只是經營一家海運管理顧問公司，後來有個機會代理馬來西亞一家船公司在台業務，沒想到才剛召募好人馬，船東就通知要停航，為了對員工負責，陳德勝決定一肩扛下，自己租船經營航線。

德翔總經理陳德勝是萬海創辦人陳朝傳的表弟，與萬海陳家為遠親關係。陳德勝早年（1988至1999年）曾經擔任萬海總經理，後來於2001年7月自立門戶、成立德翔，惟兩家公司並無直接關連。
